Pai Tan Ramen
Enerugi Ramen
Enerugi Ramen is a decent ramen shop in Greenpoint. The pai tan ramen here is very workmanlike -- it does the job, it tastes good, and I do not think it's bad. The broth is solid. It's flavorful, the mouthfeel is solid, and it's well seasoned. I would hope for a more chickeny flavor to the pai tan broth, but I suppose the salt just obliterates any true distinction beyond the fat and mouthfeel. The noodles themselves are (most likely) Sun Noodles, which are good, and the broth clings to them in a very satisfying way, but I don't know if the chew is what I hope for. The chashu is excellent, probably one of the better chashu toppings I've had anywhere. The soup and noodles just don't stand out, for the area, or for the city. I like the staff, they're delightful, and they have a good product. It could be a byproduct of the fact that I am not a big ramen fan, but unless you are in the area and craving a bowl, you could do better. They do a brisk takeout service, which probably is the core of the business (and I bet it'd be great as takeout). If you're in the area and want some noodles, they will do you right.
